A number of weeks ago we announced the date of the F3 annual pre-festival event in this blog post. The fundraising, awareness-raising, music/food/beer event we usually call The Kickoff. At the time, we didn’t have all the details aside from the date (June 15) and the location: Monocacy Brewing Company, 1781 North Market Street, Frederick, Maryland.
But now…we’re filling in the details
This amazing annual event runs 4pm – 8pm on Saturday, June 15. The event, as in previous years, is designed to be part fundraiser, part awareness-raiser to preview the type of great films that will be screened at the Frederick Film Festival later in the month, part concert with quality music, and part plain old good time. As it did last year, the event blends interesting film with live music as well as food and drink supplied by Brewer’s Alley and Monocacy Brewing Company all included in the $25 ticket price.
The event’s music will be provided by DC’s Ted Garber, a multi-instrumentalist whose “BluesAmericanaRock” combines classic showmanship with a captivating singer-songwriter sensibility. His smoky, bluesy vocals, howling harmonica riffs and screaming guitar licks are enticing audiences worldwide, taking us on a diverse musical journey from the Big Apple to the Big Easy, hovering in the Mississippi Delta before heading South of the Border.
Ted kicked off his career performing covers on the streets of New Orleans for tips, where he balanced academic studies at Tulane University with his passion for playing. Inspired by the vibrancy of the city and realizing his natural ability to connect with a crowd, he honed his talent for original material. He went on to open for the likes of Pat McGee and has performed in venues as diverse as DC’s legendary 9.30 Club, LAʼs The Viper Room, and Nashvilleʼs Bluebird Cafe. He was also named DCʼs Top Entertainer by WUSA-Channel 9, and won OnTapMagazineʼs Battle of the Bands ʻTaste of Arlingtonʼ Competition.
The event also includes short films, tours of the brewery, a selection of great foods from Brewer’s Alley, and a fine selections of beer from Monocacy Brewery as well as some other event activities. All events taking place are included in the ticket price…a hard-to-refuse entertainment value at $25. There are many film events in Frederick, and there are many fundraisers/awareness-raisers in Frederick, and there are many music events in Frederick, and there are even some music events at breweries in Frederick, but nothing beats an event that rolls all that up, accented by the amazing music of Ted Garber and topped off with a selection of short films. Nothing beats the 2013 Frederick Film Festival Kickoff Event at Monocacy Brewing Company. We promise.
Missing it should not even be an option.
